ABOUT US
History
Little Dudes Learning Center opened in 1961
when Mrs. Ellen Smith realized the need for childcare in South Austin.
Although it was still primarily undeveloped, South Austin was growing. The
IRS had just opened their Austin facility. Little Dudes Learning
Center was the first childcare center to open in Austin, south of the river. Following the opening of the first
center on Sandra Street, an after school care and summer camp was introduced at
the Crow campus, in 1972. An additional Maufrais center opened in 1980. We are
proud of maintaining the longest lasting, accredited learning
center in Austin.
Primary Goals and Philosophy of the Center
- To create a setting in which
children will find warmth, comfort, and gentleness as well as an abundance
of opportunities for movement, exploration, and self-discovery according
to individual needs interests, and abilities.
-
To assist each child to grow to his fullest
potential by recognizing each stage of development and fashioning an
environment (i.e.. curriculum, facilities, staff) designed to nurture
and facilitate growth during each stage.
- To help children achieve
independence, self-discipline, social development, self-knowledge,
enthusiasm for learning, wholesome attitudes, intellectual growth, and an
organized approach to problem solving.
- To assist parents in
understanding the development stages of their child, enabling them to
contribute most effectively to the child’s growth and
enrichment.
